Drafting (CAD) layouts

Precise CAD drawing with units and scale, snap, ortho lock, layers, dimensions and DXF, PDF and PNG export.

A Drafting layout is a CAD canvas with a coordinate grid. Red marks the X axis, green marks the Y axis, and the origin is at 0,0. The cursor position shows at the bottom left. Pinch to zoom from 0.1x to 20x.

Set units and scale first

Choose a unit system: Feet-Inches (the default), Inches, Millimeters, Centimeters or Meters. Choose a scale: 1:1, 1/4" = 1'-0", 1/8" = 1'-0", 1/2" = 1'-0", 1" = 1'-0", 1:50 or 1:100. These decide how dimensions show and how a DXF is read in desktop CAD. Changing them late means converting by hand.

Tools

  • Draw: Line, Polyline (tap points, then Finish or close it), Rectangle, Circle (drag from the center), Arc (three points) and Construction Line (a dashed reference that does not print). Select picks entities, and dragging box-selects.
  • Modify: Move, Offset (a parallel copy), Rotate, Mirror, Copy, Trim, Extend and Fillet.
  • Annotate: Dimension, Angular Dimension, Leader and Text.

Snap, ortho and typed coordinates

Snap types are Grid, Endpoint, Midpoint, Intersection, Perpendicular, Center and Angle. Open Snap Settings to switch each on or off, and to set the angle step (45 degrees by default). Ortho lock keeps everything horizontal or vertical. For exact points, open the coordinate row and type x,y for an absolute point, or @distance<angle for a point relative to the last one (for example @10<45). It works with Line, Circle, Text and Move.

Layers

Four layers exist from the start: Walls, Dimensions, Construction (gray, does not print) and Notes. The active layer receives new entities. Each layer has a color, a line weight (0.25, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 or 4.0), and switches for visible, locked and printable. Long-press a layer to rename it. Deleting a layer moves its entities to a fallback layer.

Select anything to see its Properties: coordinates, size, angle, layer, color override, one of five line types (Solid, Dashed, Dot-Dash, Center, Hidden) and a line weight.

Export

DXF opens in desktop CAD with layers and coordinates kept. PDF is a print-ready sheet with a title block and the right scale. PNG is a 2048 px image for quick sharing. Only visible, printable layers export, and construction lines are in DXF but marked non-printing.

Pro tip: Draw walls first, then dimensions, then notes. Use Offset for parallel walls and Fillet for rounded corners.
