A warranty is a promise with dates. Warranties records each one, so a callback is answered with facts and not memory. Open Aftercare and choose Warranties.
Where warranties come from
On a proposal, a warranty is its own line. A warranty priced at $0 shows as Included.
- A warranty plan you attach to a proposal. Add them in Settings, Selling, Proposal content, under Warranty plans.
- Finishing a job makes the warranty from the contract. Finish aftercare asks you to check it.
- You can add one by hand with Add Warranty.
What a warranty holds
- The customer and the job.
- The coverage type and who backs it: you, or the manufacturer only.
- How long it lasts, such as 1, 2, 5 or 10 years, and when it ends.
- Claims against it.
- A letter the customer can open.
Check-ins
On team accounts a courtesy check-in goes out about 30 days before a warranty ends, once per warranty. You can change the number of days, or turn it off for one warranty. On other accounts, send your own before it ends.
Transfer and cancel
A warranty can move to a new owner when a house sells. Visits and history stay on the record. Cancel the plan if it was given by mistake. Deleting erases the record and its history, so retire it if you want to keep the history.
Pro tip: A warranty that runs out unmentioned is a missed phone call. The 30-day check-in is the cheapest sales call you will make.
